Seals

Take the Kaka Point loop road to Nugget Point. There you will walk out along a razorback ridge to the Nuggets Lighthouse. Built in 1869 from locally quarried stone, it stands 76 meters above sea level.

The views are spectacular and a pair of binoculars will help the sharp-eyed, spot the fur seals, elephant seals and ‘Hooker’ sea lions on the rocks way below. This is the only place on the New Zealand mainland where all three species co-exist.

As time goes by, we will be adding more copy to this page and introduce you to the magnificent creatures that can be seen and enjoyed in our beautiful area The Catlins New Zealand.
